Chapter 16

“This is more than I bargained for,” Georgia said, laughing as the wagon bumped along the dirt path through the winery.

“Really?” Logan asked, his face so full of joy it nearly made Georgia cry.

She clutched the edge of the wooden seat as her backside bounced up and down on the hard surface. “Let’s just say I would’ve brought a pillow for my tushie if I’d known it was going to be this rough of a ride.”

“Ah, poor thing. But at least Mary supplied a pillow for your foot.”

Georgia had to admit that Mary Pelsh really was a keeper. She hadn’t let the wagon leave the barn until she was certain Georgia’s ankle was safe from further damage. “The Pelsh Winery is so getting a five-star review on Yelp.”

“High praise.”

“Do I know how to pick em or what?” Georgia asked him.

“You certainly do,” he said, suddenly sounding serious as he slipped his hand over hers and squeezed her fingers.

Georgia’s heart picked up a beat. When she’d decided to take Logan out for the afternoon, she’d never expected it to be anything more than friendship. She wasn’t naive. The chemistry between them was off the charts, but after he’d pulled away, she assumed they just weren’t going to cross that line.

You did write about this, a voice in the back of her mind reminded her.

So what if she’d written something similar? That scene in particular only brought joy. If she was making this happen, then so be it. Everyone deserved happiness. Georgia quickly pushed the thought aside and threaded her fingers through Logan’s. When he tightened his grip around hers, her insides went gooey. There wasn’t much that she loved more than feeling a connection to someone. And it had been far too long since she’d felt anything but lonely.

“What’s that?” Logan asked as he squinted ahead of them.

Georgia followed his gaze and frowned. “Some sort of pond?”

As they got closer, Georgia squinted and then let out a bark of laughter when she recognized where they were headed. “I can’t believe this.”

“Can’t believe what? It looks like an ice-skating rink.” He pointed toward a small building and some benches that were lined up at one end. “They even have a shack for ice skates.” He glanced down at her foot. “Oh, right. Maybe next time?”

“There’s going to be a next time?” Georgia asked before she could stop herself.

He glanced down at their clasped hands. “I think that’s likely, don’t you?”

“Yes. I just didn’t want to presume anything.”

He chuckled and lifted her hand to his lips.

The kiss he gave her sent shivers over her skin, causing an involuntary sigh that made her sound like a lovesick teenager.

His lips twitched into a tiny half smile, indicating he’d noticed, but he didn’t say anything as he clasped both of his hands over the one of hers that he held in his lap.

“I think you should do some ice-skating, and I’ll video you for our highlights reel,” Georgia teased.

“Not on your life,” he said, shaking his head.
